IDV – Adding and Filing UIDs

This guide explains how to add and file UIDs (‘Personal Codes’) for stakeholders to comply with Companies House’s new IDV requirements.

This will be required for the following processes from 18 November 2025:

  • Incorporations – adding all director UIDs pre-submission
  • Appointing a director – adding a UID pre-submission
  • Adding a PSC (including on incorporation) – adding a UID for submission by the legal deadline
  • Confirmation statements – adding director UIDs pre-submission
  • Existing PSCs – adding a UID and filing within the relevant timeframe. Use our automatic PSC filing tool for this!

For more details about Kudocs changes from 18 November, see here. We also have more details about PSC UIDs here.

For wider information about IDV and UIDs (‘Personal Codes’), including adding UIDs to stakeholder profiles, see here.

How to file a UID at Companies House (directors, LLP members and PSCs)

Select this route and Kudocs will help you complete all the necessary steps for this action.
Step 1

Complete IDV and receive the UID ('Personal Code') from Companies House

More detail
You - or your client - will need to complete this outside Kudocs. See Companies House for more guidance.

Step 2

Existing stakeholders in Kudocs - add the UID to the correct stakeholder profile(s)

More detail
Update each stakeholder profile with their 11-character UID (or 'Personal Code'). Kudocs has several easy routes for you to do this, including directly from the entity dashboard. Portfolio customers can also use the Portfolio Stakeholder search tool to simultaneously add the UID to multiple records for the same individual i.e. carry out a 'bulk update'.

Step 3

Submit the UID to Companies House with the appropriate filing

More detail
For existing stakeholders (e.g. someone who is already a director or PSC in a company) once the UID is stored in Kudocs, the system will automatically pick this up for any relevant filings - i.e. director appointments, PSC registrations and confirmation statement filings. For existing PSCs, you can either manually submit UIDs during the relevant 14-day filing windows or opt to let Kudocs automatically file these for you on time (so that you can sit back and relax!)

If you are adding a new stakeholder who does not have a profile in Kudocs or incorporating a new entity you will be prompted to add the UID as part of the relevant process.

Don't worry - Kudocs will check you have added the right information in the right place before you can submit the filing to Companies House!

Step 4

Track UID and submission statuses

More detail
Kudocs lets you easily spot which stakeholders have - or are missing - UIDs saved into the system, as well as when the UIDs must be filed. Portfolio customers can also export stakeholder reports showing UID and submission statuses across multiple stakeholders and companies.
