Director/PSC dates of birth – how do I correct these?
How do I change the date of birth recorded for a director at Companies House?
Not very easily! Understandably, Companies House does not expect people to change the date on which they were born. This meant that, until recently, there was no easy way to update this (unlike, say, your home or service address).
However, mistakes do happen. With the rollout of IDV (Identity Verification), Companies House has realised that there is increased demand for correcting ‘date of birth’ errors recorded against a director’s entry. This is because, where there is a mismatch between the date of birth recorded at Companies House and the real date of birth shown in the director’s passport etc., Companies House will reject the Personal Code/UID filing. For more on that topic, see here.
Companies House has therefore published this guidance on different correction methods. We will also sum these up in this FAQ.

The director’s date of birth was wrong from incorporation – what do I do?
Unfortunately you can only correct this via paper filings. This must include proof of the correct date of birth, for example a photocopy (not the original!) of a driving licence or passport. See the guidance for full details of what to post and where.
The director was appointed post-incorporation with the wrong date of birth – what do I do?
If the director appointment was filed on Form AP01, you can amend this online. Sign into WebFiling and under ‘All forms’ find the option to ‘Replace a previously filed appointment of a director (AP01)’. Make sure you enter the correct date of birth this time around! You must still wait for Companies House to process the correction at their end.
The director was appointed before 1 October 2009 with the wrong date of birth – what do I do?
You must complete a ‘change of particulars’ form from the old Companies Act 1985 set of forms (Form 288c or 296). The Companies House guidance helpfully has links to these forms.
The ‘date of change of particulars’ must be 30 September 2009 or earlier. If the error was made on the original appointment filing, you should give the director’s appointment date.
Post the form to the ‘Capital Team’ at Companies House – see the guidance for the full address. Remember to check for PROOF before posting!
I used to do this with Forms RP02A and RPCH01 or AP01 – what’s changed?
Companies House have changed their processes for correcting date of birth errors as part of the ongoing ECCTA reforms. Forms RP02A and RPCH01 have therefore been withdrawn and should not be used.
How do I change the date of birth recorded for a PSC at Companies House?
Companies House has published guidance on how to do this. As for directors, it depends on when and how the PSC was first registered at Companies House for the relevant company. The procedures are more or less the same, with the exception that if a PSC was registered via a CS01 filing (between roughly 2016 and 2017) you must also go down the paper route.
How long does it take Companies House to process the correction?
As at the time of writing, Companies House say that it may take up to 20 working days for a correction to be processed due to ‘high demand’. If you can correct the filing online i.e. via Webfiling, this is recommended to free up time for paper-only corrections.
